Do you know of someone who has made a difference in our community?

7th October 2020

It is safe to say that 2020 has been a challenging year for many of us and it is important now more than ever to recognise people who have made a real difference in our community over the past 12 months.  The Citizen of the Year Awards recognise the incredible efforts of those in our community who rise to the challenge and demonstrate leadership, initiative and active citizenship.  Their influence significantly contributes to the advancement and well-being of your community.  Do you know someone who makes our community a better place?

There are many ways that people could have made a difference in our community beyond their everyday normal.  Now can be the time to give back and reward those people by nominating them for an Australia Day Citizen of the Year Award.

This year, an additional award category has been added “Award for Active Citizenship” for a person or group delivering outstanding work or for an event or cause, staged in the community during the past year.

Nominations are invited for the following categories:

  • Citizen of the Year
  • Young Citizen of the Year (16 to 30 years)
  • Community Event of the Year
  • Award for Active Citizenship

Mayor Brad Flaherty said, “We encourage the community to nominate those worthy of an award so that they can be rewarded and recognised for their contribution to making our community a better place.  It is a great honour to be able to celebrate our local people and their achievements with members of the community, down on the Port Lincoln foreshore, on Australia Day”.

Nominations can be made online at or you can submit a hard copy nomination form which are available at the Port Lincoln Library, Council Administration Office and website at

Nominations are open until 5pm on Friday 20 November 2020.

The Australia Day Citizen of the Year Awards are proudly presented by the Australia Day Council of South Australia, sponsored by Local Government Association of South Australia, On the Run and Sarah Constructions.
