Michelle den Dekker OAM, past champion netballer, to attend Sports Awards

The Lower Eyre Peninsula Sports Awards Committee have secured past Australian Netball Captain and Diamonds - Assistant Coach, netballer Michelle den Dekker OAM as the Special Guest at the Bendigo Bank – Port Lincoln Branch Lower Eyre Peninsula Sports Person of the Year Awards Presentations Dinner being held on 21 February 2020 at the Ravendale Sporting Complex.

Michelle has had an incredible netball career and currently runs her own Netball consultancy business that delivers both coach education and player development resources for schools, clubs and associations throughout Australia.

Mayor Brad Flaherty said, “What a privilege it will be to have such a high calibre Sports Person like Michelle den Dekker OAM come to the Awards Presentation Dinner and speak and mingle with our sporting athletes.  It will be a great opportunity to listen and learn from someone who has achieved so much in their sporting career and who continues to give back to her sport”.

Nominations are being invited for the Bendigo Bank – Port Lincoln Branch Lower Eyre Peninsula Sports Person of the Year Awards for the following three categories:

  • Sports Power Super Store Senior Sports Person of the Year
  • McDonalds Junior Sports Person of the Year
  • National Pharmacies Sporting Volunteer

Darren Allard on behalf of the Lower Eyre Peninsula Sports Awards Committee said “It is important for people to nominate so that we can highlight and celebrate the achievements of our local sporting athletes”.

If you know of someone who has excelled in their sport, they may have been chosen to represent their state or was an integral part of their team and or always represented their sporting club to the highest level, then please let us know about them.  Nomination forms are available at the Council Administration Office and Port Lincoln Library and on the websites, and

“Although nominations close on Friday 13 December 2019 we strongly encourage you to get your nominations in as soon as you can”, said Darren Allard.

The highly sought after tickets for the Awards Presentation Dinner will go on sale in December 2019 available from the SA Tickets website.
