New Nature and Adventure Playspace Grand Opening
The opening of the Port Lincoln Foreshore Playspace will be officially celebrated at a Grand Opening event on Monday, June 5.
Stage One of the $7.24 million Port Lincoln Foreshore Redevelopment has now been completed with residents able to explore, discover and play on the new nature and adventure playspace when it opened on Friday 19 May 2023.
Mayor Mislov said the playspace has been designed specifically with a gradient of play challenge across the site, ranging from less challenging water and sand creative play experiences, a low mound slide, swings and trampolines, to greater challenges including rope and climbing structures and tunnel slide. The playspace also incorporates elements such as a BBQ area and picnic bench and ample seating throughout.
“It provides something for everyone, regardless of age or ability. It doesn’t segregate junior or senior play area, but allows children to choose the play experience that feels right for them.”
“We are very proud of the integration of Barngarla heritage and storytelling throughout the playspace. Yailgoo Aboriginal Arts Group partnered with Eyre Arts Action to integrate art works such as a Barngarla language welcome inlaid into the playspace entrance, a stunning fish mosaic, and resin based ‘discoverables’ hidden throughout an interactive water feature, inspired by the fish traps of the Eyre Peninsula.”
Official proceedings on Monday June 5 will start at 4pm at the Playspace and will include an Acknowledgment of Country, speeches, and a sausage sizzle by Rotary Club of Port Lincoln.
The $1.618 million* Playspace has been made possible by City of Port Lincoln and the State Government’s Local Government Infrastructure Partnership Program contributing matched funding of $3.64 million across the five stages of the redevelopment of the Port Lincoln Foreshore Project.
*(includes construction, project management, design, art installation and administrative costs)
