By-Laws

The Local Government Act 1999 allows Council to establish By-laws for the good rule and government of the area, and for the convenience, comfort and safety of its community.

A By-law is legally enforceable and is required to be reviewed by Council every seven years.  

At its meeting on 20 June 2011 Council resolved to make five By-laws.  These By-laws commenced operation on 30 October 2011, four months after the date they were published in the Government Gazette on 30 June 2011. 

City of Port Lincoln Council administers the following By-laws in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Local Government Act 1999.

By-Law No. 1 - Permits and Penalties By-Law 2011

By-Law No. 2 - Moveable Signs By-Law 2011

By-Law No. 3 - Roads By-Law 2011

By-Law No. 4 - Local Government Land 2011

By-Law No. 5 - Dogs By-law 2011

Some activities will require a permit to be issued by Council - please complete form 2-9-T4 By Law Permit Application and forward to Council for approval by post or email - contact details are provided on the form.

2018 Council By-law Review

Council has undertaken and completed a review of the above By-laws as they are due to expire on the 1 January 2019. 

The following By-laws were adopted at the meeting of Council on Monday 18 June 2018 and were published in the Government Gazette on Thursday 5 July 2018.  These By-laws will commence operation on Monday 5 November 2018, in accordance with section 249(5) of the Local Government Act 1999, being four months after the day on which the By-Laws were published in the Government Gazette.

  2. Moveable Signs By-law No. 2 of 2018;
  3. Roads By-law No. 3 of 2018;
  4. Local Government Land By-law No. 4 of 2018; and
  5. Dogs By-law No. 5 of 2018
