Queen's Baton Relay

Port Lincoln is getting set to welcome the 2018 Queen's Baton Relay on Monday 19 February 2018 and encourage the community to cheer on our local batonbearers along the Relay route or by joining in the festivities on the foreshore. 

The Queen's Baton Relay is a Games tradition that celebrates the Commonwealth's diversity, inspires community pride and excites people about the world-class festival of sports and culture to come. 

The GC2018 Relay is the longest and most accessible in history, travelling through the entire Commonwealth for 388 days and 230,000 kilometres before arriving on the Gold Coast for the Opening Ceremony on 4 April 2018,  Here Her Majesty's message will be removed from the Baton and read aloud to declare the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Open. 

Community Event on the Foreshore

To celebrate the journey of the Queen's Baton City of Port Lincoln are excited to host a community event on the foreshore from 12pm with a live broadcast by Magic 89.9 kicking off at 1pm.  On air interviews will be held with Mayor Bruce Green, Peter Treloar - Member for Flinders and our 2017 Sportsperson of the Year receipient Jade Calverley.  There will be facepainting and balloons for the children, and Council volunteers will be handing out handwaver flags to welcome the arrival of the Baton.  Cocoloco catering and the RFDS will be also be providing delicious treats to enjoy while we wait.

The Queen's Baton will make its way from Coffin Bay to the Port Lincoln Marina where it will meet Port Lincoln's first batonbearer Dana Hurrell and will leave the marina around 12.50pm and travel along South Quay Boulevard, Marina Drive, Ravendale Road, St Andrews Terrace, Le Brun Street, Mortlock Terrace, Park Terrace, Adelaide Place, Liverpool Street, Eyre Street and Tasman Terrace arriving at the town square around 1.45pm.   Magic 899 personalities will be intervewing the batonbearers on their experience.

Road Closures

A rolling road closure will be in place while the Baton makes its way from the marina to the foreshore to ensure the safety of our batonbearers and members of the public.  Traffic marshalls will assist with redirecting and holding of traffic with minimal delays expected.

Tasman Terrace between Adelaide Place and Bligh Street will be closed from 7.30am to 3pm for the community event on the foreshore.
