Port Lincoln Skate Park Upgrade

Official Opening

The Port Lincoln Skate Park is to be officially opened on Wednesday 12 September 2018 at 10am by the Hon Stephan Knoll, Minister for Planning and Mayor Bruce Green.

The community are invited to the official opening event to celebrate the completion of the major upgrades and street skating extensions - there will be cake and local skaters showcasing their impressive skills on the new extensions from 10am to 11am.

Background

In January 2017 the City of Port Lincoln and skate park design and construction company CONVIC developed a draft concept plan for the Port Lincoln Skate Park Upgrade.  The draft concept plan was based on information received from community and stakeholder workshops held in January 2017.

Skate Park users and members of the community were invited to provide comment on the draft concept plan from 15 May 2017 to Monday 12 June 2017.

At the conclusion of the consultation period fourteen (14) written responses were received from the community and three people attended the workshop held at the Port Lincoln Council Chambers on 1 June 2017.  In summary of the responses a few minor changes were made to the concept plan.

Final Skate Park Concept Plan

Port Lincoln Skate Park Closure - 21 May - 31 August 2018

Upgrade works to the Skate Park commenced Monday 21 May 2018 with works expected to be completed by the end of August 2018.

Council received $200,000 in matching grant funding in February 2018 from the State funded 2016/17 Open Space Program through the Planning and Development Fund, to assist with the redevelopment.

The new design utilised the current open lawn space to provide a range of additional 'street skating' equipment, shelter, more shaded seating and improved pedestrian traffic through and within the Skate Park.

The re-design is based on the outcomes of extensive consultation with users of the park and provides a more varied range of skating obstacles to cater for different skill levels.  The works on site also consist of renovations to the existing skate bowls, upgrades to the existing safety fence, repair works to the toilet roof and existing retaining wall and additional landscaping.
