Commemorating 125 years of Naval service, this special community event will see HMAS Eyre's Ship's Company march along Tasman Terrace from 11am, accompanied by the Royal Australian Navy Band, before a formal Freedom of Entry ceremony on the foreshore (near the Port Lincoln Playspace).
The Freedom of Entry is one of the oldest and most honoured customs in military history. It symbolises the trust and respect between a military unit and the community it serves. During the parade, Navy personnel from HMAS Eyre will march in ceremonial uniform with swords drawn, bayonets fixed, drums beating, colours flying and music provided by the Royal Australian Navy Band.
Following the ceremony, community members are invited to continue the celebrations at the Port Lincoln RSL and meet members of HMAS Eyre's Ship's Company and enjoy a sausage sizzle.
