No Spray Register

City of Port Lincoln's weed control program is essential to maintaining the cleanliness and safety of our township's streets, footpaths, kerbs, gutters, and road reserves. To manage vegetation and weeds effectively, we use chemical herbicides as part of this program.  However, we understand that some community members may prefer not to have chemicals used near their properties.

To accommodate these preferences, the Council has introduced a No Spray Register.  This register allows property owners/residents to opt out of chemical spraying on the road reserve in front of or alongside their property.  Applying to be placed on the No Spray Register, property owners/residents agree to take responsibility for managing weeds and vegetation in these areas without the use of chemical products.

This initiative reflects our commitment to meeting the diverse needs of our community while supporting environmental sustainability and promoting resident well-being.

Responsibilities for No Spray Register Registrants

Properties on the No Spray Register will be inspected every six months to ensure adequate weed management.  If weeds are not being controlled effectively, the Council may resume maintenance responsibilities, which may include chemical weed control.

In cases where a registered property verge is not maintained to the required standard or if a public complaint is received, the property owner/resident will be provided 14-days' notice to address the issue.  Failure to comply will result in the removal from the No Spray Register, and the Council will proceed with weed control using chemical methods.

Registration Process

Residents interested in applying to be placed on the No Spray Register need to be aware of the following:

  • Registrations are valid for a maximum of 24 months from 1 July.  Requests made before 1 June will be valid until 30 June of the following year.
  • Registrants must renew their registration every two years to remain on the register.
  • If the property is rented or part of a unit or strata complex, written consent from the landlord or body corporate is required.

For more details, guidelines and assessment of applications, please refer to our No Spray Register Policy 14.63.17 [PDF 265KB] before completing the application form.  Applicants will be notified in writing of the outcome of their application.

Once a resident's application has been approved by Council and they have been inducted into the No Spray Register, Council will supply a sign for installation.  This sign will indicate that the property is on the No Spray Register and that any complaints about the condition of the verge is to be directed to Council.
