Impounded Dogs

On the occasion your dog has escaped or has wandered off from home and cannot be found it may be that one of our Community Liaison Officers has found your dog wandering at large within the community.

If the dog is wearing a collar and has its owners contact details on a tag or the dog can be identified our Community Liaison Officers will try and contact the owner straight away.  If however, they are unable to get in contact with the owner, the dog will be taken to the Council pound.

If you are unable to locate your dog please contact the Council Office on 8621 2300 and ask to speak with one of our Community Liaison Officers.

For us to be able to release the dog from the Council pound, the owner of the dog must come into the Council Administration Office during business hours and provide proof of ownership and that the dog is registered.  If the dog is not registered the owner will be required to register the dog online through Dogs and Cats Online or can come into the Council Office where a staff member will be able to assist with the registration process.

A dog that has been placed into the pound will incur impoundment fees as per Council’s Fees and Charges Schedule and these will be required to be paid before the dog can be released.

Payment of registration and impoundment fees can be made in person by cash or EFTPOS at the Council office between 9am and 5pm at:

City of Port Lincoln
Level One, Civic Centre
60 Tasman Terrace

Once payment has been made a time will be arranged with one of our Community Liaison Officers to collect the dog from the pound.
