Impounded Dogs

On the occasion your dog has escaped or has wandered off from home and cannot be found it may be that one of our Council Officers has found your dog wandering at large within the community.

If the dog is wearing a collar and has its owners contact details on a tag or the dog can be identified our Council Officers will try and contact the owner straight away.  If however, they are unable to get in contact with the owner, the dog will be taken to the Council pound.

If your dog has no ID of any kind (no collar/microchip/tag) and our Council Officers are unable to determine who the owner of the dog is, these dogs will be listed on the Lost Pets of South Australia Facebook page.  If your dog is showing on the Lost Pets of South Australia Facebook page it will let you know who to contact to arrange the return of the dog.

If you are unable to locate your dog please contact the Council Office on 8621 2300 and ask to speak with one of our Council Officers.

For us to be able to release the dog from the Council pound, the owner of the dog must come into the Council Administration Office during business hours and provide proof of ownership and that the dog is registered.  If the dog is not registered the owner will be required to register the dog online through Dogs and Cats Online or can come into the Council Office where a staff member will be able to assist with the registration process.

A dog that has been placed into the pound will incur impoundment fees as per Council’s Fees and Charges Schedule and these will be required to be paid before the dog can be released.

Payment of registration and impoundment fees can be made in person by cash or EFTPOS at the Council office between 9am and 4.30pm at:

City of Port Lincoln
Level One, Civic Centre
60 Tasman Terrace
PORT LINCOLN SA 5606

Once payment has been made a time will be arranged with one of our Council Officers to collect the dog from the pound.
