Council By-Laws

The Local Government Act 1999 allows Council to establish By-laws for the good rule and government of the area, and for the convenience, comfort and safety of its community.

Council undertook and completed a review of its suite of By-laws in 2018 as they were due to expire on the 1 January 2019.

The following By-laws were adopted at the meeting of Council on Monday 18 June 2018 and were published in the Government Gazette on Thursday 5 July 2018.  These By-laws commenced operation on Tuesday 6 November 2018, in accordance with section 249(5) of the Local Government Act 1999, being four months after the day on which the By-Laws were published in the Government Gazette.

A By-law is legally enforceable and is required to be reviewed by Council every seven years with the next review to be undertaken in 2025.

Some activities will require you to get permission from Council first. Refer to the relevant By-law for activities that require a permit.

If your activity requires Council approval, you will need to complete the By Law Permit Application Form 2-94-T4 [PDF] and forward to Council either by:
