Behavioural Standards for Council Members

Behavioural Standards for Council Members are established by the Minister for Local Government pursuant to section 75E of the Local Government Act 1999 (The Act). These Behavioural Standards form part of the conduct management framework for council members under the act and set out the minimum standards for behaviour that are expected of all council members in the performance of their official functions and duties.

Model Behavioural Management Policy

The LGA Model Behavioural Management Policy applies to all South Australian councils until each council adopts their own within 12 months of the November 2022 election. The Policy sets out:

  • the requirements relating to the  management  of behaviour of council members
  • the process for receipt and management of a complaint received regarding the conduct of a council member.

To assist in the administration, receipt and management of a complaint under this Policy, all complaints can be submitted, marked:
