Syringes / Needles / Sharps

Discarded syringes/needles/sharps pose a serious health and safety risk to the community. If you find a needle, sharp or syringe on Council land, please call Council on 8621 2300 at any time or the Needle Clean Up Hotline on 1300 13 1340 to have the items safely removed. Please do not attempt to pick the item up yourself.

For collection staff will need to know the exact location of the needle. Where possible, stay nearby to point out the exact location or alternatively you can report the location via the My Local Services App using the Report It function.  Simply follow the steps in the app and provide as much detail as you can to assist staff to locate the discarded syringe/needle.

If you prefer you can take a photo from your phone and edit the image marking the location of the needle and email to Council at plcc@plcc.sa.gov.au with as much detail as you can.

Sharps, needles and syringes are used by a diverse range of people in the community including those with diabetes, steroid use, image enhancing drugs, therapeutic injectors and illicit drug use. No matter the way in that they are generated, these items are hazardous and should be disposed of appropriately. When needles, syringes and sharps are used at home people need to place the used items within a rigid walled container and disposed of safely and legally. Yellow sharps containers can be purchased and disposed of at participating chemists, available locations are listed here.

Sharps containers are located at the following public locations within the City of Port Lincoln:
