City of Port Lincoln launches Draft Volunteer Management Plan for community consultation

Published 22nd July 2025

The City of Port Lincoln is proud to announce the release of its Draft Volunteer Management Plan 2025-2030 for community consultation, a key initiative under the City’s Strategic Directions Plan 2025–2034.

The draft plan is open for comment from Thursday, 24 July to Friday, 15 August 2025, and Council invites feedback from volunteer organisations, stakeholders and residents.

Volunteers play an integral role in supporting identified Council services and programs.  In 2024/25, more than 60 volunteers collectively contributed approximately 1,033 hours across Council volunteering programs at the Nautilus Arts Centre, Port Lincoln Library, Cruise Ship Program, and Mill Cottage Museum.

The Draft Volunteer Management Plan outlines Council’s role as a provider, facilitator, and advocate in the volunteering space.  Key focus areas include:

  • Ensuring safe, inclusive, and meaningful experiences for Council volunteers;
  • Supporting local volunteer organisations through grants and partnerships; and
  • Advocating for the needs of volunteers and promoting awareness campaigns.

Aligned with the National Strategy for Volunteering 2023–2033 and the Volunteering Strategy for South Australia 2021–2027, the Plan also reflects Council’s broader priorities of inclusion, health, and community wellbeing.

Informed by demographic analysis, sector trends, and previous community engagement, the draft Plan is now ready for formal consultation to gather further input from the community.

Mayor Diana Mislov said, "Volunteering is vital to the social fabric of our community. This plan recognises the incredible contributions of our volunteers and outlines a clear path to support, grow and celebrate volunteering in Port Lincoln within Council’s resourcing capacity."

“We want to hear from our volunteers, community groups, and residents.  Your feedback will help shape a plan that truly reflects the needs and aspirations of our community.”

The Draft Volunteer Management Plan 2025-2030 is available for viewing on Council’s online Engagement Hub at yoursay.portlincoln.sa.gov.au, and in person at the Council Office and Port Lincoln Library.
