City of Port Lincoln to host State Election Candidate Session to highlight community priorities

Published 19th February 2026

The City of Port Lincoln is ensuring the community’s key priorities are front and centre in the lead-up to the 2026 State Election on Saturday, 21 March 2026, through a strengthened advocacy approach targeting candidates for the Seat of Flinders.

Council has prepared and endorsed its 2026 State Election Platform at the Ordinary Council Meeting on Monday, 16 February 2026.  The Platform outlines priority projects seeking State Government partnership and investment and sets out a clear plan to unlock housing, strengthen infrastructure, enhance liveability, and support heath, sport and recreation outcomes across the community.

As part of this approach, Council will host a State Election Candidate Session at the Port Lincoln Hotel on Thursday, 5 March 2026 at 7.00pm. Candidates contesting the Seat of Flinders and key stakeholders will receive a copy of the Platform, which clearly articulates the City’s priorities, proposed funding contributions and opportunities for State Government partnership.

Community members, business leaders and organisations are encouraged to attend and hear directly from candidates as they discuss Council’s priority projects and outline their commitment to the region.  The session will be moderated by Dr Haydon Manning, with registrations essential via Eventbrite (2026-pl-state-election-candidate-forum.eventbrite.com).

The initiatives outlined in the Platform are not aspirational ideas, they are carefully planned priorities identified through community consultation and embedded in Council’s adopted strategies.

Key projects in the Platform include:

  • Housing: Road and Infrastructure projects to unlock land for housing developments
  • Infrastructure: – Wharf renewal at Lincoln Cove Marina
  • Liveability: – Amenity improvements around Lincoln Cove East Reserve and upgrade of the Proper Bay boat ramp
  • Health and Wellbeing: – Coastal path development for the Parnkalla Trail Connection and Extension
  • Sport and Recreation: – Redevelopment and expansion of Centenary Oval facilities, Centenary Oval lighting upgrade and renewal of the Ravendale hockey pitch

Mayor Diana Mislov said, “The Candidate Session will provide a valuable opportunity for candidates to outline their commitment to the region and for the community to hear directly how they intend to support Port Lincoln’s future.”

“Council is seeking a strong State Government partnership to bring these projects to fruition. Collectively, the initiatives are valued at just over $52 million. Council has committed more than $12 million in funding, land and asset contributions, with approximately $39 million being sought from the State Government.”

Chief Executive Officer Eric Brown said, “State elections present an important opportunity to advocate for regional investment. Securing State Government partnership is essential to unlocking housing, strengthening infrastructure, enhancing liveability and supporting sport, recreation and wellbeing across our community.”

“Council encourages all interested community members to attend the Candidate Session and participate in the conversation about Port Lincoln’s future.”
