Published 10th July 2026

The City of Port Lincoln is proud to announce that its Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) has been formally endorsed by Reconciliation Australia, marking a significant milestone in Council's ongoing commitment to reconciliation.

The RAP reflects Council's commitment to building meaningful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, fostering respect, and creating opportunities through practical actions that contribute to lasting and positive change.

Developed in partnership with Council's Reconciliation Action Plan Working Party, the Innovate RAP provides a clear framework to strengthen relationships, increase cultural understanding and embed reconciliation across Council's operations, decision-making and engagement with the community.

Mayor Diana Mislov said "The endorsement of our Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan is something Council is incredibly proud of. It reflects our commitment to listening, learning and working in genuine partnership with First Nations peoples to create a more inclusive and connected community."

"Reconciliation is not a destination, but an ongoing journey. This plan provides practical actions that will help Council continue to build respectful relationships, celebrate Aboriginal culture and create opportunities that benefit our whole community."

Council extends its sincere thanks to the members of the Reconciliation Action Plan Working Party whose commitment, insight and collaboration were instrumental in the development of the Innovate RAP.

The Working Party brought together representatives from across Council and the First Nations community, contributing valuable knowledge, lived experience and perspectives to ensure the plan reflects local aspirations and priorities. Council is particularly grateful for the guidance and cultural knowledge shared by representatives of the Barngarla Determination Aboriginal Corporation, Port Lincoln Aboriginal Health Services and Port Lincoln Aboriginal Community Council throughout the process, helping to ensure the RAP is grounded in respect, partnership and shared understanding.

"This endorsement belongs to everyone who contributed to developing the plan. On behalf of Council, I thank each member of the Working Party for their generosity, passion and commitment to advancing reconciliation in our community. Their contribution has laid a strong foundation for the work ahead," said Mayor Mislov.

As Council begins implementing the Innovate RAP, it remains committed to working alongside the Barngarla people, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stakeholder groups and communities and the broader community to deliver meaningful outcomes that support reconciliation and strengthen relationships across Port Lincoln.

Council looks forward to bringing the commitments outlined in the Innovate RAP to life to ensure reconciliation remains an integral part of how it serves the community. The Innovate RAP is available on Council’s website at https://www.portlincoln.sa.gov.au/plansandstrategies.
