Council adopts Disability Access and Inclusion Plan 2026-2030
The City of Port Lincoln has formally adopted its Disability Access and Inclusion Plan (DAIP) 2026–2030 at the Ordinary Council Meeting on Monday, 16 March 2026, reaffirming Council’s commitment to creating a community where people living with disability can fully participate in civic, social and economic life.
Within the Eyre Peninsula region, Port Lincoln has the highest proportion of people living with severe or profound disability, as well as the highest proportion of older people living with disability, according to the 2021 Census. Council recognises the importance of ensuring local services, facilities and public spaces are accessible and inclusive and responsive to the needs of the community.
The Disability Access and Inclusion Plan provides a clear framework to guide Council’s planning, decision-making and service delivery over the next four years. It outlines how Council will consider access and inclusion across its programs, infrastructure, events, information and employment practices, ensuring barriers are reduced and opportunities for participation are strengthened.
The updated DAIP aligns with the State Disability Inclusion Plan 2025–2029 and has been informed by feedback gathered during the State’s consultation process, reflecting the priorities and lived experiences of the South Australian disability community. Council also undertook local consultation as part of the review, with community feedback helping to shape the final Plan. Actions from Council’s previous Disability Access and Inclusion Plan that remain relevant and ongoing have been retained to ensure continuity and continued progress.
Mayor Diana Mislov said, “The adoption of the DAIP demonstrates Council’s ongoing commitment to improving access and inclusion across the city.”
“The Disability Access and Inclusion Plan provides a clear framework to guide how Council will continue working to remove barriers and create a more inclusive community for people living with disability.”
“On behalf of Council, l thank community members, organisations and individuals with lived experience who provided feedback during the consultation process. Their insights are invaluable in ensuring the DAIP reflects the needs and priorities of our community.”
The DAIP 2026–2030 outlines practical and measurable actions to improve access to information and services, apply universal design principles in public spaces, support inclusive employment opportunities, enhance safety, and strengthen partnerships with disability organisations and service providers.
The Plan is structured around five key domains that support greater inclusion across the community:
- Inclusive environments and communities
- Education and employment
- Personal and community support
- Health and wellbeing
- Safety, rights and justice
The Disability Access and Inclusion Plan 2026–2030 is available to view on the Council’s website at www.portlincoln.sa.gov.au/plansandstrategies.
