Council seeks Event Organiser for Tunarama
The next step in the revitalisation of Tunarama has commenced, with council inviting experienced event organisers to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) to deliver a Tunarama Festival with council financial and in-kind support.
At the September 2024 Ordinary Council meeting, Council gave the green light to commence an Expression of Interest process to invite interested parties to submit their proposal to deliver a Revitalised Tunarama Festival for 2026. The offer is open to groups and individuals such as community groups, non-profits, peak bodies or professional event organisers who have the skills and experience to effectively plan, organise and deliver a new Tunarama Festival.
Earlier this year consultants were appointed to prepare a Strategic Assessment and Activation Plan for a revitalised Tunarama Festival. During the consultancy, several event organisers approached Council and the consultants expressing interest in running Tunarama, hence it was recommended that an ‘Expressions of Interest’ process be undertaken to enable all interested parties to provide submissions for Council’s consideration and decision.
Mayor Diana Mislov said, “The opportunity would involve City of Port Lincoln leasing the brand to a successful tenderer for a defined period, likely three years, and to work with Council via an advisory committee to ensure local input and ongoing Council operational support.”
"The consultants have undertaken extensive work, including community consultations, to ensure the festival’s vision and purpose align with local desires and expectations. The final plan includes a diverse range of programming and activities that celebrate Port Lincoln's heritage, foster community spirit, and attract visitors to the city."
A detailed Expression of Interest proposal is available on the Council’s Tender page, and it contains links to the Tunarama Strategic Business Plan and Activation Plan which outline the vision for a revitalised Tunarama in more detail.
The EOI application form outlines the submission requirements and evaluation criteria, and all written submissions are due by 10am on Friday 31 January 2025.
