Foreshore Boardwalk Renewal - Staged works and pedestrian access changes

Published 28th October 2026

The City of Port Lincoln has commenced renewal of the foreshore boardwalk along Tasman Terrace.

Rocksolid Building Co has been awarded the tender and is replacing the ageing decking and refurbishing existing structural supports, including timber repairs, protective coatings to steelwork, and footing and erosion repairs. The renewal will improve the boardwalk’s durability and load capacity and, together with repairs and protective treatment of the retained structure, will extend the service life of this valued foreshore asset.

Works commenced on Monday, 26 October 2026 and are expected to take approximately seven to eight weeks. Council is working towards completion by Friday, 18 December 2026, ahead of the busy post-Christmas holiday season, to minimise impacts on nearby traders and foreshore users. Timing is subject to weather and site conditions. Any earlier completion or reopening dates will be shared once confirmed.

Construction Stages and Indicative Dates

Works will progress across four stages, with a rolling work front and some overlap between stages. The following dates are provisional planning windows, subject to contractor confirmation, weather and site conditions:

  • Stage 1 – Main deck beneath the historic Moreton Bay fig tree: 26 October–13 November 2026. Temporary fencing has been established, restricting pedestrian access around the work area.  Stage 1 does not affect parking.
  • Stage 2: 11–25 November 2026.
  • Stage 3: 23 November–7 December 2026.
  • Stage 4: 3–17 December 2026, with final checks and removal of temporary controls targeted for 18 December 2026.

Pedestrian Access, Parking and Traffic

Access arrangements and parking restrictions will move with the active work areas. Please follow signage in place around the works.

  • Business access: All business entrances will remain fully accessible throughout the works, with work occurring on the north-eastern, seaward side of Tasman Terrace.
  • Pedestrian diversions: During stages 2–4, affected footpath sections on the north-eastern, seaward side of Tasman Terrace will close. Pedestrians should follow signed alternative routes and cross to the south-western, business side.
  • Parnkalla Trail: The boardwalk and adjoining section of the Parnkalla Trail within the active work area will be closed during construction. Signed pedestrian detours will be provided around the works and will move as construction progresses.
  • Parking: There are 19 parking spaces along this section of Tasman Terrace. Council and the contractor are aiming to have no more than 10 spaces affected at any one time as the rolling work front progresses. This is a target rather than a guaranteed maximum.

Road traffic disruption is expected to be minor. Deliveries will be timed to minimise impacts on traffic, with materials progressively brought to site to reduce storage needs and the work area footprint.

The Foreshore Boardwalk Renewal is fully funded through a $388,948 grant from the Government of South Australia’s Algal Bloom Response Local Government Grant Fund.

Council thanks businesses, residents and visitors for their patience and cooperation while this important renewal is undertaken. Please continue to support nearby businesses, which remain accessible throughout the works.
