Last chance to nominate someone who makes Port Lincoln great!

Published 10th November 2025

The City of Port Lincoln is reminding the community that nominations for the 2026 Australia Day Citizen of the Year Awards close on Sunday, 16 November 2025.

These awards are a wonderful way to celebrate and recognise the people who make Port Lincoln such a special place to live, the volunteers, mentors, event organisers and quiet achievers who contribute in countless ways to our community.

Mayor Diana Mislov said, “The Citizen of the Year Awards highlight the importance of taking a moment to acknowledge and celebrate local people who make a difference every day. It’s so important to recognise the positive things happening around us.  Our community is full of people who give their time, skills and energy to help others, often without expecting anything in return.  The Citizen of the Year Awards are our chance to say thank you and to celebrate their contribution.”

“It’s not just about big achievements, it’s about recognising the everyday people whose efforts make a difference and help strengthen our community.  A simple nomination can mean the world to those who give so much of themselves for the benefit of others. Now is the time to nominate and shine a spotlight on their achievements.”

Nominations are open in the following categories:

  • Citizen of the Year
  • Young Citizen of the Year (aged 16 to 30 as of 26 January 2026)
  • Community Event of the Year
  • Award for Active Citizenship (for a person or group delivering outstanding service to our community)

Nominations can be submitted online at www.citizenoftheyear.com.au or a Nomination Form can be collected from the Council Office or Port Lincoln Library.

Award recipients will be announced in December and officially celebrated as part of the Australia Day celebrations on the Port Lincoln Foreshore, Monday 26 January 2026.
