Library to host Volunteer Morning Tea celebrating National Volunteer Week

Published 1st May 2026

The City of Port Lincoln is inviting the community and local volunteering involving organisations to celebrate National Volunteer Week at the Port Lincoln Library on Thursday, 21 May 2026 from 10.30am to 11.30am.

Running from 18-24 May, National Volunteer Week is Australia’s largest annual celebration of volunteering. This year’s theme, “Your Year to Volunteer”, encourages people of all ages and backgrounds to get involved in ways that suit their lifestyle, interests and capacity, recognising that volunteering evolves across life stages, communities, and circumstances.

The morning tea will provide an opportunity to thank past and present volunteers, connect with each other, and learn more about local volunteering opportunities. It will also offer a relaxed space for prospective volunteers to meet volunteer involving organisations, ask questions, and discover meaningful ways to get involved.

Earlier this year, more than 80 local volunteers and representatives from volunteer involving organisations gathered for Port Lincoln’s International Volunteer Year 2026 (IVY 2026) celebration, recognising the people who keep our community strong. Following that event, Council installed a new Volunteer Display Board at the Port Lincoln Library. Developed in response to community feedback and supported by Mayor Diana Mislov, the board highlights a wide range of local volunteer opportunities and makes it easier for residents to connect with groups seeking support.

Mayor Diana Mislov said, “From our SALT Festival crew to the friendly faces that fire up the barbeques at events, volunteers are the heartbeat of this City. They’re the ones raising donations, serving meals, responding to emergencies, supporting our sporting clubs, tending to our environments, welcoming visitors with a smile, and sharing our stories and histories. Volunteers keep our community connected and are the reason this place feels like home.”

The morning tea is a chance to celebrate those who already give their time and to welcome others who may be curious about volunteering. Whether you’ve been involved for years, taken a break, or are exploring how you might contribute, you are warmly invited to attend.

To assist with catering, please RSVP via Eventbrite or contact the Community, Culture and Recreation team by email community@plcc.sa.gov.au or phone 8621 2300 by Thursday, 21 May 2026.
