Mayor's Message - July 2026

Published 28th July 2026

Winter Wellbeing, Community Connections and Planning for the Future

As we move through the winter months, I encourage everyone to take a moment to check in on neighbours, friends and family — particularly those who may live alone or need a little extra support during the colder weather. A simple phone call, a cup of tea, or a friendly conversation can make a meaningful difference.

This message of looking after one another was also highlighted recently at the 10th Anniversary celebrations of the Investigator Clinic, at their present location on Liverpool Street. Congratulations to the team on reaching this wonderful milestone and on the important role they continue to play in supporting the health and wellbeing of our community. The celebrations also provided an opportunity to reflect on the incredible contribution of those working across our medical profession. With winter often bringing increased demand on health services, we extend our thanks and appreciation to all doctors, nurses, allied health professionals, support staff and volunteers who continue to care for our community.

Council has also recently undertaken a review of its Community Land Management Plans, with a revised framework adopted for future community consultation. These plans provide an important foundation for how Council manages community land and assets, ensuring they continue to meet legislative requirements while reflecting the expectations and changing needs of our community.

The revised framework groups community land management into clearer categories, including:

  • Recreation and Sports Grounds
  • Port Lincoln Foreshore
  • Parks, Gardens and Reserves
  • Community Assets and Buildings
  • Coastal Reserves and Boat Ramps
  • Cemeteries

Separating the plans into these categories provides greater clarity around Council’s responsibilities for managing, leasing, licensing and permitting appropriate activities, while creating a framework that is easier to understand, apply, update and review into the future. Importantly, this approach also supports greater transparency for our community.

Council has a wide range of reports, plans and strategies available through our website, and I encourage anyone interested in understanding more about Council’s work, priorities and decision-making to take the opportunity to explore these resources or contact Council for further information.

It was also a pleasure to recently welcome graduates participating in the Study Adelaide Northern Region Career Tour. I had the opportunity to speak with participants about what makes Port Lincoln such a welcoming place to live, work and build a future.

Our region offers wonderful career opportunities across many industries, alongside the lifestyle benefits that make our community so special — from our beaches and natural environment to sport, community groups, churches, schools and the many organisations that contribute to our strong sense of belonging.

The Career Tour provides graduates from a wide range of fields with the opportunity to experience regional life firsthand, meet employers, hear from local leaders and business operators, and connect with people who have recently made Port Lincoln their home.

We hope these visitors see what we already know — that Port Lincoln is a place full of opportunity, community spirit and an enviable lifestyle. We welcome them to consider choosing Port Lincoln when making their next career move and finding the right opportunity for their future.

As always, my door is open. If you would like to discuss anything Council-related, please feel welcome to get in touch or come in for a chat.

Stay warm, look after each other, and thank you for continuing to make Port Lincoln such a wonderful place to live.
