Port Lincoln showcases local career opportunities to future skilled professionals
Port Lincoln recently welcomed more than 50 final-year international university post graduate students to the region through a StudyAdelaide Regional Careers Tour, helping connect future skilled professionals with local employers and showcasing our city as a great place to live and work.
Council sponsored and supported the running of the event, after advocating for Port Lincoln's inclusion on the tour.
The day began with a meet-and-greet session, giving students and local employers the opportunity to connect and learn more about each other. This was followed by a welcome speech from Mayor Diana Mislov, an overview of the region’s economic outlook from Regional Development Australia Chief Executive Ryan Viney, and an introduction to the local community from Port Lincoln Multicultural Council’s President, Diana Smith. A highlight of the day was a panel discussion featuring Port Lincoln residents who had migrated from overseas, sharing their firsthand experiences of living and working in the area.
In the afternoon, students visited local workplaces relevant to their respective fields of study, including nursing students visiting the Port Lincoln Hospital, teaching students visiting Navigator College, and engineering students visiting the SA Water Desalination Plant.
In the lead-up to the visit, Council worked with local businesses to identify workforce needs and help connect students whose qualifications aligned with local employment gaps.
Mayor Mislov said “It was wonderful to see so many students take an interest in building their careers in our city, and I would be thrilled to see them return in the future as new members of our community.”
"Attracting skilled workers to Port Lincoln helps address critical skill shortages in the area, supports local businesses and essential service provisions, and allows our community to thrive and grow,”
"Initiatives like this tour, which introduce students directly to employers and showcase the benefits of living in Port Lincoln, plant the seeds for future workforce growth and support the long-term economic development of our city."
The City of Port Lincoln thanks StudyAdelaide, the participating students and the local businesses and organisations that supported the tour. We are proud to showcase Port Lincoln as a welcoming regional city with excellent career opportunities and lifestyle benefits.
