Sport and Recreation Grant Funding Applications Open
The City of Port Lincoln invites applications for the Sport and Recreation category of its Community Grant Funding Program, with grants of up to $5,000 available. Community groups can apply from Tuesday 11 August until midday on Wednesday 2 September 2026.
Council recognises the importance of sport to individuals’ health and wellbeing, and is committed to supporting events, activities and programs that make it easier for people of all ages and abilities to move, play and participate. This focus is reflected in the goals of Councils Strategic Directions Plan to support the delivery of sport and recreation initiatives that foster grassroots activation, participation and sustainability.
Past grant recipients have delivered events, activities and programs that incorporate movement, play and community connectedness while addressing barriers to participation and encouraging lifelong engagement.
One example is the Kindergym Connect Program, a free, specialised class for children aged 0-5 years with neurodivergence. Now an ongoing program following the initial grant, this program continues to create a quiet, inclusive and stimulating environment at Port Lincoln Gymnastics space where children can play safely at their own pace.
Another is the Night Owls Bowls program: Council proudly supported the 2025/26 season, which brought 70–90 participants together each week across 20 games. With players aged from 12 years to 92 years, and open to the whole community, Night Owls fostered social connection and accessible recreation for people of all abilities.
Mayor Diana Mislov said “These grants help strengthen community connection through active participation.”
“Sport and recreation create micro‑communities that keep our town healthy and strong. They’re more than just activities, they bring people together, build skills, confidence and enjoyment.”
Community groups interested in applying can visit Council’s Community Grand Funding webpage or contact Council’s Community, Culture and Recreation team for more information.
As part of the broader Community Grant Funding Program, Council has Quick Response Grants available. This funding stream provides grants of up to $1,000 for smaller-scale projects, events, and community-building initiatives and is open year-round or until funds are exhausted.
